These types of towels are most commonly used in Japan for school. Elementary school kids hang them by the loop on a hook on the side of their desks. It is important to carry a towel with you in Japan because most public rest rooms have no paper towels or hand driers available. Also many places are not air conditioned and people ride trains and buses and everyone uses small towels to mop sweat from their faces all day! This is especially true in the schools where this is no a/c or fans.  This is a really nice absorbent terry towel. The size is approx. 13" square.  This would be cute to hang in a guest bathroom or in the kitchen. These towels can be machine washed and dried however I would recommend cold water and laying it flat or hanging it to dry to preserve the color and prevent any shrinking. I have been using some of these for more than 10 years and they are still bright year after year. However I don't dry mine in the drier and I never use hot water (most Japanese rarely use a drier and we don't have hot water for our washers available!).
